Many home improvement contractors describe themselves as "fully-insured"; but how many of them really are? Often what they mean is that they have liability insurance to protect themselves from damages or injuries they may do to others - but do they also have the Workman's Compensation and Disability coverage that's required if they have employees? Did you know that if the answer is no, you - the homeowner - may be at risk if any one of them is hurt while working on your job? Be sure to require that a current insurance card be sent to you by the contractor's insurance agent BEFORE work begins; and be certain that it includes coverage for both Workman's Comp AND Disability before agreeing to let the work proceed!
